Snow Forecast for the UK: Stay at Home, Stay Safe, Stay Productive

Snow Forecast for the UK: Stay at Home, Stay Safe, Stay Productive

The Brits love to talk about the weather. And it looks like it’s changing again:

It’s 2013, not 1913

If we do get a decent downfall of snow it will affect many people as they won’t be able to travel to work. It’s ridiculous in this day and age, when we carry around a small handheld device capable of accessing the sum of human knowledge, but can’t do a day’s work without travelling to the office.

Obviously, not all of us are desk-bound computer-hitters, but millions and millions of us are.

“Wouldn’t it be easier if we could just stay at home and work? Wouldn’t it be safer?”

We already know that if it snows the roads will stop working – this is standard UK stuff. Why must we make it more dangerous by trying to get into the office, just to get to a desk? Wouldn’t it be easier if we could just stay at home and work? Wouldn’t it be safer?

It’s 2013 here

For some of us, the lucky ones, things have changed. Companies with Microsoft Lync are finding that “snow days” are having little impact on their business and their staff. I can be just as productive at home, talk to just as many people, receive calls on my direct line, collaborate and share information with co-workers … even if it is 6ft under outside.

Let’s Fly The Flag

If you’re one of the lucky ones, let others know over the next few days. Bring it to the attention of others that there’s a better way of doing business in 2013. Mock your friends if they moan about the traffic jams. Do your bit for UK PLC. You can even use the poster if you wish!

Employers:  take a look a Lync and see what it could do for your business.  And if you need some help, I know a company [disclaimer…yes I work there!]
